Short answer: For a small Fanvue creator, SFS vs paid promo starts with one question: are you trying to win followers or paying subscribers? SFS and drops are free and bring both. Paid promo is worth it once you know which audiences turn into subscribers who spend.

  • Free first: SFS, drops and a FreeVues listing cost nothing.
  • Pay with a target: guaranteed gains on Fanvue come as GG fans or GG subscribers, so pick the one you actually need.
  • Pay on results: Fanvue's own Affiliates feature, where it's available to you, pays other creators only when fans pay.

Full disclosure: we make ShareYourFans® and run FreeVues, so both appear below. Fanvue's features, and its own figures on free-trial fans, are quoted from the Fanvue help centre as it read in September 2026.

1. How do SFS and paid promo differ on Fanvue?

SFS (shout for shout) is a free swap between two Fanvue creators, each introducing the other. Paid promo is a purchase from a seller, and the only thing you owe is the price. Guaranteed gains (GG) is the paid format with a minimum built in.

2. Followers or subscribers: what are you trading for?

On Fanvue, a promo can win you two kinds of fan, and they're worth different things. Fanvue's help centre on Follow for Free says followers are fans who aren't ready to buy: they get your follower-level posts and your messages, while subscriber-only posts stay locked. Follow for Free is on by default.

That matters for a small page, because followers are easier to win and still reachable. Fanvue's guide to mass messaging says your Followers list is for nudging fans who haven't paid yet toward subscribing. A swap that mostly brings followers isn't wasted; it's a list you can work.

Guaranteed gains on Fanvue come in two kinds, so choose deliberately:

  • GG fans: a guaranteed number of new followers and subscribers, counted through a tracking link.
  • GG subscribers: a guaranteed number of new subscribers through a free trial link.

Fanvue's own numbers are a useful caution on the second kind. Its guide to running profitable promotions says, looking across the platform, that about 1 in 4 fans who join through free trials or free trial links stay past 90 days, and that they typically spend around 5x less over their lifetime than paying subscribers. A trial subscriber is a start, not a sale.

3. What can a small Fanvue creator use for free?

A small Fanvue creator has four free routes, and none of them need a following elsewhere.

  • SFS on ShareYourFans®. Free every time, three swaps per 24 hours at most. Search for partners around your own size; larger creators can still tick a box to hear from pages under their minimums.
  • Drops. A group of up to 20 Fanvue creators share one collage. Fanvue drops close at 20 creators, or at the 24-hour mark as long as 3 or more have dropped, and the collage stays up afterwards as a more.fun™ slideshow.
  • FreeVues. Our free directory of Fanvue creators, where fans browse by niche with no account. Listing is free and the free plan never expires; you connect through Fanvue's own screen, and we never see your password.
  • Fanvue's own Discover. According to Fanvue, the Discover feed is shuffled by default to give eligible creators a turn, and it lifts new and fast-growing accounts toward the top.

Before you push any of them, Fanvue suggests having at least 20 pieces of content live, so new subscribers have plenty to explore.

4. When is paid promo worth it for a small Fanvue creator?

Paid promo is worth it for a small Fanvue creator when you know what you're buying it for and can measure it.

  • A feed post or mass DM suits a creator who wants a specific audience that won't swap yet. No Pro needed: add and verify your Fanvue profile and you can order either. Ask whether a mass DM goes to the seller's followers, subscribers or both.
  • GG fans suit a creator who wants a bigger list to message and convert.
  • GG subscribers suit a creator who has a strong welcome message and content ready to turn trial fans into paying ones. GG is a Pro purchase, which also means you see shared-fan overlap on the order before paying.
  • Fanvue Affiliates is a pay-on-results option inside Fanvue. Its help article says any creator can open an offer paying 5% to 50% commission to creators who bring them paying fans; it only counts fans new to you, free trials alone don't earn commission, and the feature is a beta that isn't available to everyone yet.

5. A step-by-step plan for a small Fanvue page

  1. Get your page ready: content live, a profile that says what you post, Follow for Free left on.
  2. List on FreeVues and add a Fanvue tracking link named "FreeVues", so its clicks and subscribers show on your Fanvue dashboard.
  3. Verify on ShareYourFans® and run a few swaps with creators near your size.
  4. Join Fanvue drops in your niche.
  5. Message your Followers list with a reason to subscribe.
  6. Read your tracking links and note which partners sent subscribers, not just followers.
  7. Buy one small promo from a seller whose audience looks like your best partners, or try GG fans if you need a bigger list.

7. Risks and tradeoffs

  • Followers can flatter. A swap or GG order can hit its number in followers who never pay. Judge by subscribers and spend.
  • Trial subscribers churn. Fanvue's own figures say most free-trial fans don't stay past 90 days, so price GG subscribers with that in mind.
  • SFS and drops cost feed space. Every one is a post about other creators.
  • Paid promo can arrive as promised and still miss if the seller's fans want something else. One tracking link per order shows it.
  • Pro is a cost. GG, overlap and order ROI sit on Pro, priced at $35 monthly for one profile after 7 free days.

FAQ

Is SFS or paid promo better for small Fanvue creators?

Begin with the free routes: SFS, drops and a FreeVues listing. Spend on paid promo after your tracking links show which kinds of audience turn into paying subscribers, and buy more of that.

What's the difference between GG fans and GG subscribers on Fanvue?

GG fans guarantee a minimum number of new followers and subscribers, counted through a tracking link. GG subscribers guarantee new subscribers through a free trial link. Both are sold on ShareYourFans® and need Pro.

Are Fanvue followers worth getting from a promo?

Yes, if you work them. Followers haven't paid yet, but Fanvue lets you message them, and its help centre suggests using the Followers list to nudge them toward subscribing. Track how many convert before paying for more.

What is Fanvue Affiliates?

Affiliates is a Fanvue beta where a creator offers 5% to 50% commission to other creators who bring them paying fans. It only counts fans new to that creator, free trials alone don't earn commission, and it isn't available to everyone yet.

Is FreeVues free for Fanvue creators?

Yes. Listing on FreeVues is free and the free plan never expires. You connect through Fanvue's own screen, we never see your password, and fans browse free with no account before subscribing on Fanvue.
